“I recommend Megan Cooper with the highest possible recommendation.” - Anna Cody

I love working with actors and singing actors to get to the essence of the story. I believe that “why"?” is the most important question to be asked. If the actor really wants to know the answer, the character will be there.

Beginning my career as a classical singer, before switching my gaze to straight acting, has put me in a special place of understanding a singer’s needs while also understanding how to inhabit a character. I believe the singer can use the voice and the breath to access the acting and the acting to access the vocal production. The singer’s breath and the actor’s intention are interchangeable. They are both about achieving a goal and using motion to get there. Every part of a song is there for a reason. How do we use the lyrics? How do we use the vocal runs? How do we use the repetitions? How do we use the musical breaks? What is the arc? Using all the piece offers, gives the singer a reason to communicate.

“Megan is a brilliant acting coach. She knows Shakespeare as well as anyone out there, and she is a wiz at using the actor’s own essence and bringing the character to the actor. She is warm, supportive, wise and fun. Whenever i coached with her, I felt so confident in what my character was trying to accomplish that I actually enjoyed auditioning and could just take the ride and enjoy the work.” Anna Cody (The Old Globe, San Diego / Shakespeare Theatre Company, Washington D.C.)

“Megan Cooper is a master teacher and opera coach able to help guide a student to that essential ingredient for ownership of a role - character ownership and development . Ms. Cooper does this by teaching the physicality of the role, showing students how to inhabit the character through the music. Additionally, this presence engages the student to be immersed at a stronger emotional level overall improving their vocal production.” Bradley Martin (Former Department Chair of Department of Music and Theatre at California State University, Chico)

“Honestly, you have been such an inspiration for my acting. I have never taken classes, but when you taught me about my character I was able to literally feel the part I was in and that made my performance so much better. Other people recognized this too. You brought out the character from within me, and with these tools I can relate it to any opera song performance I am in. Thank you Megan!” Val Birznieks (CSU, Chico class of 2020)
